Common questions

What can I take home today?

A push-to-start fob for the top Ford, Toyota, Nissan, GM and Ram 1500 models, fob batteries and hide-a-key boxes. Buy a fob with programming and a technician is sent right away, or buy the fob only and book programming later with the order number on your receipt.

Every other car key is scanned at the kiosk and shipped: 24 hours standard, 48 hours for difficult keys.

Will the key you send start my car?

It will fit and turn. Whether it starts the engine depends on pairing the transponder to your immobilizer, which is a separate step and on some makes is restricted to the dealer network.

We say so up front rather than after you have paid.

I have lost every key. What then?

That is not duplication and no kiosk can do it. Originating a key with none in existence is a technician job — see our new car key page.

Terms on this page

Transponder
A passive chip in the key head. The car challenges it and the immobilizer releases the engine only if the answer matches. A perfectly cut key with the wrong chip will turn but not start.
Immobilizer
The system that refuses to let the engine run without a recognized key. It is why a car key is a part to be supplied rather than only a pattern to be copied.
Laser-cut or sidewinder blade
A thick blade with a winding channel milled into its face instead of teeth along the edge. It needs shop milling equipment, so it is scanned at the kiosk and shipped.
Remote head key
One moulded unit containing blade, transponder and buttons. Distinct from a separate remote riding alongside a plain key, and from a proximity fob with a hidden mechanical blade.
